Portrait Sessions
I offer all inclusive sessions that include the session fee and digital negatives in one package. Sessions are 1 or 2 hours, and you can add more digital negatives to your package before or after the shoot. Please contact me for more information and I will be happy to discuss pricing and help you decide what the best fit is for you.
An extra note about newborn sessions: I recommend calling to book your session at the start of your third trimester. The sessions are best when held in the first two weeks of life, so there is a small time window in which to schedule the session. Newborn sessions are 3 hours because of time needed to get the baby to sleep.
About Me
When my sixth grade teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, “a photographer,” and I made a pinhole camera for the science fair that year. But she told me I had to be something else (a doctor), and the camera didn’t work (the box wasn’t light tight), and my dream drifted away. My interest in photography was always there under the surface though, and I eventually took it up as a hobby as an adult. When I figured out that I could combine two things I adored: babies and photography, I was hooked, and a new career was born!
I began photographing babies and families professionally in 2004 when I was pregnant with my own daughter. Babies have not yet learned to be self-conscious in front of the camera, and I love capturing that openness. I also want to record all their tiny details (fingers and toes, eyelashes and belly buttons) that will change so quickly. It is wonderful to watch parents focus on their baby, forget about the camera, and become just as open as their child. I want to help preserve the memories of that new family.
Even though the science fair camera didn’t work, my scientific inclination must have remained strong because I became a chemical engineer and worked in research and development for 5 years. I now teach high school chemistry, and I have found that I love teaching and working with teenagers as much as I love babies! High school senior portraits became a natural fit for me.
At first glance, it may seem odd that my favorite subjects to photograph are newborns and seniors, but I see it as coming full circle. I capture the newborn coming into the family and the young adult ready to leave home and go out into the world. These are both pivotal moments in the life of a child as well as the life of the family…moments that should be preserved with photographs.
